With the World Indoor Championships coming up later this month, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has revealed to Making of Champions that they will be announcing their team before the end of the week.
Speculation has been rife as to whether Nigeria would compete in the World Indoors, especially as other Athletics federations have commenced the release of their team lists for the execution of the championships in Portland.
However, Technical Director of the AFN, Omatseye Nesiama stated that they are working on the final list which will be made public this weekend, also noting some of the events Nigeria will be participating in.
According to Nesiama, Nigeria will be sending teams to compete in the 4x400m relays and other individual events. There is also a strong indication that Stephen Mozia, who recently broke the National Indoor Shot Put record will be part of the Nigerian contingent to Portland.
Other athletes like National 400m champion, Chidi Okezie who last weekend won in Boston clocking 21.02s in the 200m and 46.48s in the 400m, could also be in the team, subject to confirmation by the AFN.
Meanwhile, James Dasaolu and Tiffany Porter were part of a strong 23-athlete team named by the British Athletics Federation on Tuesday, as they will be competing in the 60m and 60m Hurdles respectively.
