On Wednesday night, the fifth evening of the 2023 World Athletics Championships at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Marileidy Paulino finally delivered on a promise long-shown, striking GOLD in the women’s 400m!

The Dominican who had two global Silver medals before this race, became the first woman from her country to win such a title, pulling away from the field in absolute dominance and in a time of 48.76s.

She was almost a full second ahead of her nearest competitor, Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek who has been very consistent in 2023, taking Silver in 49.57s.

Sada Williams who had the Bronze from the last edition in Oregon and had run a National Record of 49.58s in qualification, won another Bronze this time in 49.60s.
