Nigeria fielded in three women to compete in the women’s Discus Throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, a record-breaking feat itself in the fact that the country has never had three people qualify, talk less of competing in a single field event at the biennial championships.

Chioma Onyekwere who had set an African Record earlier this year, recorded the best performance mark-wise in the event, launching out to 58.58m in the second round to finish 10th overall. She was in Group B, the same qualifying pool as Obiageri Amaechi who managed 51.60m.

Before their performances, National Champion Ashley Anumba had wet the ground in the form of her 57.77m that placed her 13th overall in Group A.
