Chukwuebuka Enekwechi competes in the Men's Shot Put Qualification during day one of the World Championships in Budapest.

Nigerian record-holder in the men’s Shot put, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi’s fourth World Championships campaign has come to end after narrowly missing out on qualification for the final in his specialisation Day 1 of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The reigning African Champion placed 7th in the Group A with a best throw of 20.68m, which was off the qualifying mark of 21.40m or an overall Top 12 finish for the next round.

A foul on his first attempt, 20.41m on his second and 20.68m on his final throw, positioned him just outside the Top 12 performers as he finished 13th overall.

Going into the championship with a Season’s Best (SB) of 21.69m, a similar throw would have been enough to take him to tonight’s final.

The Nigerian, who ranks No. 10 in the world, made the final in the last two editions, placing 8th in Doha 2019 and finished 11th in Oregon.
