Usheoritse Itsekiri had the poise, he had the times, he had the crowd and finally he delivered in the men’s 100m final on Day 1 of the Nigerian Athletics Championships at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, storming away to win the title of Nigeria’s fastest man in 10.02s!

By so doing, he equalled his Personal Best (PB) from 2019, the same year he won his first National title, with this being his second over 100m. Behind him was Seye Ogunlewe who laid claim to 2nd place in 10.11s, followed closely by Alaba Akintola in 10.12s.

In the women’s event, Edo State’s Blessing Ogundiran won her first National title after securing the victory over African U-18 100m/200m champion Faith Okwose, and African record holder in the Long Jump, Ese Brume, with her time of 11.50s.

It was so close a finish that the top 4 finishers were just separated by two-hundredths of a second, with Okwose settling for 2nd in 11.51s while World Long Jump Silver medallist Ese Brume finished 3rd in 11.52s, with the same time given to 4th-placed Victory Godah.
