A quarter-final contest awaits Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in their interesting campaign at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup as they square up to the Asians on Sunday.

With Nigeria the last-standing representative for Africa at the tournament, Ladan Bosso’s boys will seek to go a step further and make a name for themselves by clinching Nigeria’s first semi-final ticket in 18 years.

Nigeria reached the last-eight after a stunning victory over hosts Argentina 2-0 in the Round of 16 earlier in the week, courtesy of second-half strikes from Ibrahim Muhammad and Haliru Sarki.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s Red Devils came tops in their own knockout clash with Ecuador, winning 3-2 and seeing a late scare from the South Americans in the closing minutes.

Notably, the Asian boys are unbeaten so far in the competition, beating France 2-1 in their opening game before playing out a 2-2 draw against Honduras, and eventually closing their group phase with a goalless draw with Gambia.

HEAD TO HEAD

Sunday’s encounter will be the third meeting between both sides at the U-20 level.

Korea Republic snatched a 2-1 win in the first encounter at the 2005 edition, but the Eagles got the better of them in 2013 with a 1-0 win, thanks to Olanrewaju Kayode’s early goal.
