Ivory Coast forward Maxwel Cornet was on target for French Club Olympique Lyonnais as they defeated the much-fancied Man City 3-1 to qualify for the semi-final of the Champions League.

Lyon went ahead in the 24th minute when Maxwel Cornet curved a superb finish beyond the helpless Ederson after City were caught out by a long ball over the top.

Interestingly, Cornet only had one shot on target in the game, while he made 20 passes in the game with a pass accuracy of 65%.

City manager, Pep Guardiola had tinkered with his system coming into this clash and it backfired as his team struggled to create chances in the first 45. The Spaniard eventually reverted to a more familiar system when he brought on Algerian Riyad Mahrez and he had a role in the equaliser as he played in Raheem Sterling to tee up Kevin De Bruyne.

City were looking the more likely but were stunned 11 minutes from time when substitute Moussa Dembele raced through to fire Lyon back in front. Dembele then added another just seconds later to dump the Citizens out of the competition.

Also, Cameroonian Karl Toko Ekambi started upfront for Lyon and he put in a decent shift before being substituted in the 87th min.
