Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has officially signed for Napoli, announced President Aurelio De Laurentiis this afternoon.

The Nigerian striker becomes one of the most expensive African players of all time, reportedly at €60m including bonuses, while goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis is moving to Lille as part of the deal.

Also, he is the most expensive signing in Napoli’s history, a record that was set last summer by Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven for €38m plus bonuses.

“SSC Napoli are delighted to announce the signing of Victor Osimhen from Lille on a permanent transfer,” read the Napoli statement.

“Osimhen came through the youth ranks at Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos and turned professional shortly after his 18th birthday when he joined Wolfsburg.

Osimhen had already passed his medical in Rome on July 18 and will wear the Number 9 jersey, which is currently held by Fernando Llorente.

The Nigerian star burst onto the scene last season at Lille, scoring 18 goals and providing 6 assists in Ligue 1 as they finished fourth and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

There are very few things in life that make me happy, but talking and writing Sports has to be at the top. I honed my broadcasting skills at the University of Lagos Radio Station and have free-lanced for platforms like Top Radio and Superscreen TV amongst others. Deji loves running commentaries on Football matches and Athletics, and is now a Junior Sports Writer at Making of Champions. He hopes to become a Sports Agent in the future.
