A detailed look at our standings from the Stockholm Diamond League (DL), and you won’t see Team Top Sprinters in the top 10, but they are still leading the MoC league leaving one to wonder how they do it.

It’s been six meets this year and they have still been able to consolidate on the top spot. Having finished 16th with a meager 127 points from Stockholm, Top Sprinters still has a healthy lead to brag about, and interestingly they didn’t win any of the last three meets.

It is pertinent to note that since then, from 2nd position down to other spots have swapped places. To further buttress how good Top Sprinters have been, they are still in the top 100 in the world, ranked at number 64th across all leagues having amassed a total of 847 points.

The overall ranking in the MoC League after Stockholm DL

Stockholm DL didn’t particularly favour any team per se, as there was no spectacular display like a Meeting Record (MR) that would have doled out bonus points. For instance, Andre De Grasse’s wind aided 9.69s, big as it was could only earn 15 points.

For those who chose the likes of Yarisley Silva (3 points) and Bershawn Jackson (2 points), they had to contend with seeing an optimistic 30 points from the duo, only accounting for 5 points.

Many teams chose Luvo Manyonga who they felt could easily land an MR, going by how well he had consistently jumped over 8.60m this year. The Long Jump circuit on that day seemed smaller for the South African to aim something very big.

So who were our winners in Stockholm: Markus Lundborg (sounds Scandinavian right?) won with 140 points, however due to his status of not being resident in Nigeria, Ceasar’s team owned by Kingsley Okelu will now get the prize for 1st position being the next on the log with 135 points.

Next will be Argris Theo’s team (who we would still ascertain his own status as well) finishing 2nd with 133 points. For now, Growing Up Team owned by Abdulrahman Afeez gets to be rewarded for 3rd with 133 points, while Christian Okafor’s team is on standby pending ratification on who the top 3 to be rewarded are.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
