Dafne Schippers displayed that she’s in good form to win GOLD after clocking a time of 21.96s to win heat 1 of the women’s 200m semis and progress to the final at the Rio Olympics.
It was a completely stacked heat that also had Elaine Thompson who is looking to do the double in Rio, finishing 2nd with a Season’s Best of 22.13s.
The race was so fast the both Deejah Stevens and Dina Asher who finished 3rd and 4th in 22.38s and 22.49s respectively secured the last two fastest losers spots. Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare finished 5th in 22.69s.
There was never in doubt over Schippers’ ability in the 200m which many see as her forte especially after running the 3rd fastest time in history to win GOLD at last year’s World Championships.
Coming on the back of finishing 5th in the women’s 100m, the former Hepathlete will be looking to grab the 200m GOLD to compensate for missing out on the podium last Saturday.
Ivory Coast’s Marie Josee Ta Lou continued with her impressive showings, running a new Personal Best of 22.28s to qualify for the final. Lalova-Collio finished 2nd with an SB of 22.42s
Meanwhile, Tori Bowie also secured qualification to the final, comfortably winning her heat in 22.13s. Michelle-Lee Ahye ran a new Trinidad & Tobago national record of 22.57s.
