Kenya’s Celliphine Chepteek Chespol was the woman to beat in the 3000m Steeplechase final at the ongoing IAAF World U-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, after racing to a Championship Record (CR) of 9:25.15 on Day 4 of the Championship.

Despite her petite frame, the 17-year old held her own much to the admiration of the crowd, pulling away at the final lap to take the victory ahead of Tigist Getnet of Bahrain who won Silver in 9:34.08. Ethiopia’s set a Personal Best (PB) of 9:37.17 to claim the Bronze medal.

Chespol’s teammate Betty Chepkemoi Kibet was excited about setting a PB of 9:38.27 despite finishing outside of the medal zone in 4th place.

Last year Chespol set a PB of 6:17.15 to win GOLD in the 2000m Steeplechase at the IAAF World Youth Games in Cali, and made her Diamond League debut in Shanghai a few months ago, finishing 7th in a PB of 9:24.73.
