African Record holder, Blessing Okagbare put up a good show to finish 2nd behind Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson in the women’s 100m at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco on Sunday, May 22.

The Jamaican raced to a Meeting Record (MR) of 11.02s at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, while the Nigerian star demonstrated that she’s also making progress, lowering her previous SB of 11.30s set in Kawasaki, to a new mark of 11.11s.

Thompson was certainly favoured to win the race going by her scorching though wind-aided time of 10.71s set at the Jamaica Invitational earlier in the month, and her presence in Rabat definitely inspired Okagbare to up her game as well.

Jamaica’s Kerron Stewart was 3rd in 11.19s, as South Africa’s Carina Horn followed in 11.28s. The world’s second fastest woman ever Carmelita Jeter finished 5th with a time of 11.32s. Alexandria Anderson (11.45s), Mujinga Kambundji (11.45s) and Ezinne Okparaebo (11.46s) placed 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.

Okagbare will be looking forward to setting new SBs in her other events as the outdoor season progresses, with her best performances in 2016 being 22.82s in the 200m, and 6.25m in the Long Jump.
