Nigeria’s sole entrant for the women’s 100 metres Rosemary Chukwuma will now compete in the 100m semi-final of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games 4x100m Bronze medallist who was seeded in Heat 4, finished 4th in 11.24s and will go through as one of the next fastest three times.

Competing in the fourth heat, women’s 200m defending Champion Shericka Jackson coasted to victory in 11.06s, with Michelle-Lee Ahye following in a Season’s Best (SB) of 11.16s. Germany’s Gina Lückenkemper was 3rd with a time of 11.21s.

Chukwuma will now hope to improve her performance and qualify for her first individual final event at the World Championship. Last year in Oregon, she made the semis in the women’s 200m and final in the women’s 4x100m where the team finished 4th.

The women’s 100m semi-final is slated for tomorrow night around 7:35pm (Nigerian time).
