The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will kickstart their campaign at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup tomorrow in Mendoza, Argentina, as they take on debutants Dominican Republic in their opening game.

The Nigeria U20 team, who will be making their 13th appearance at the tournament, will be eager to start off on winning note and top Group D.

For the Caribbean boys, they will be looking to fly Dominican Republic’s flag high, being the country’s first representative at a FIFA World Cup game at any age level or gender.

Following a 10-day camping in Buenos Aires with friendlies against Almirante Brown and Columbia U-20, the team on Wednesday touched down at Mendoza – the venue of their first two group games.

Midfielder Victor Eletu joined up with the squad a little late as he had to feature for AC Milan U19 on Wednesday, before jetting out to Argentina, but coach Ladan Bosso is confident the player’s late arrival won’t be a problem to the team.

The Nigeria boys with two pre-tournament friendlies, defeated Argentine second division side CA Brown 3-2 with goals from Salim Fago, Emmanuel Umeh and Tochukwu Nnadi. Against Columbia U20, they made an interesting comeback from 3-1 down to draw the scores level and finish the game 3-3.

Nigeria will confident of picking all three points on Sunday as the Dominicans are winless in their last seven games.
