Team Nigeria’s representatives in the Badminton event at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics have exited the Games after suffering losses in their final group round matches on Tuesday.

The men’s doubles team: Godwin Olofua and Anuoluwapo Opeyori wrapped up their group phase campaign, losing 2-0 (21-8,21-10) to Russia’s Ivan Sozonov & Vladimir Ivanov. They had succumbed to a straight-set defeat (21-7, 21-10) on Monday to Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Aders Skaarup Rasmussen who are world number 12 in the doubles global rankings.

Also, Nigeria and Africa’s sole representative in the women’s singles event, Dorcas Adesokan suffered her second defeat of the campaign in the group play stage game of Group C, losing 2-0 (21-3, 21-6) to South Korea’s top seed, An Seyoung.

Adesokan was beaten 2-0 (10-21, 2-21) by Clara Azurmendi Moreno of Spain in her first group game.
