Team Lagos won medals in two of the three relay races held on the closing day of the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF), taking Silver in the Mixed 4x100m relay and another Silver in the women’s 4x400m final held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The first race of the evening was the Mixed 4x100m, and Joy Udo-Gabriel, Jerry Jakpa, Balikis Yakubu and Emmanuel Ojeli raced to a time of 42.80s to pick Silver behind the Edo State team that set a new Festival Record of 42.44s, and ahead of Delta that took the Bronze in a time of 42.95s.

Not done with winning medals, a young women’s 4x400m team comprising Mercy Umoibang, Ada Bright, Blessing Onome and Blessing Oladoye initially crossed the finishing line in 3rd place with a time of 3:42.67 to secure a spot on the podium, picking Bronze behind Akwa Ibom (3:34.14) and Delta State (3:38.45). However, Delta State was later disqualified and the Lagos team was upgraded to Silver, with Ondo State being awarded the Bronze medal.

In total, Lagos State won four medals out of the five relays that were competed in at the Edo 2020 NSF, starting off with Silver in the women’s 4x100m, Bronze in the men’s 4x100m, and then the Silver medals in the Mixed 4x100m and women’s 4x400m respectively. The state did not field a team in the men’s 4x400m.

Individual Medallists for Lagos State include Abejoye Oyeniyi (110m Hurdles GOLD), Miracle Thompson (100m Hurdles Silver), Udo-Gabriel (100m Silver), Jakpa (100m Bronze & 200m Silver), Ojeli (400m Silver), Temitope Adeshina (High Jump GOLD), and Cyprian Oyedele (High Jump Silver)
