The Super Falcons of Nigeria started their Turkish women’s cup campaign on a winning note as they defeated CSKA Moscow women’s football club 1-0 in what was Randy Waldrum’s first game in charge.

The nine-time African champions, who are playing their first match in over a year, started on the front foot, with the trident of Asisat Oshoala, Francesca Ordega, and Chinwendu Ihezuo carving out chances in the opening minutes of the match.

It was the latter that put the team in front in the 18th minute when she tapped in a cross by Ordegah from the right.

Despite a late onslaught on the team, the Falcons held their nerves to claim victory in the match.

They will play Equatorial Guinea and Uzbekistan in their last group games.
