Lucy Ejike struck a Gold medal in Manchester

World Record holder Lucy Ejike won GOLD for Nigeria on Day 2 even as the team continues to dominate at the ongoing 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup in Manchester.

The three-time Paralympic GOLD medallist claimed top spot in the women’s up to 45kg class ahead of Rayisa Toporkova of Ukraine and Kimberley Dean of United Kingdom, who occupy the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.

Meanwhile, Olaitan Ibrahim’s 122kg lift in the Women’s Up to 67 kg was more than enough to earn Nigeria another GOLD medal on Day 2 as well.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria kicked off proceedings with a 1-2 in the men’s 59kg category, as Thomas Kure lifted 176kg to seal the GOLD medal ahead of his compatriot, Ibrahim Dauda who claimed Silver with a lift of 165kg.

Rio Olympic Bronze medallist Nnamdi Innocent settled for the Silver medal in the Men’s up to 72kg with a lift of 192kg in what was the last event of Day.

Nigeria presently tops the medals standing with a total of nine medals comprising six GOLD and three Silver medals after two days of stiff competition in Manchester.
