Ruth Usoro got her 2021 campaign off to a brilliant start at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in the women’s Triple Jump where she broke sand at a massive first-round Personal Best (PB) and National Record (NR) of 14.28m, becoming the first Nigerian woman to surpass 14m indoors!

Her mark is a Texas Tech School Record and doubles as a World Lead (WL). It is also the 2nd all-time on the NCAA Toplist behind Keturah Orji and 5th all-time on the African Indoor Toplist.

She jumped another sound 14.07m in the second round and passed on all of her other 4 attempts. It is also notable that her jump is just 4cm short of the Olympic qualification mark.

Usoro then took to the runway about 3 hours afterwards in the women’s Long Jump where she nailed the win with a Season’s Best (SB) of 6.51m, from her only legal attempt of her three tries.
She finished ahead of Tara Davis who reached 6.24m, while Monae Davis placed 3rd with 6.18m.
