Nigeria’s U20 team was held to a 1-1 draw by the Ivorian U20 side in the ongoing West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament taking place in Benin republic.

In what was a keenly contested affair, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria posed threats to the opponent goal area but could not break through their defense in a match that took place at the Stade Charles de Gaulles.

Nigeria, however, got the first goal of the match when former Goldern Eaglet winger Wisdom Ubani put Chris Nwaeze through on goal, as he slotted the ball home in the 65 minutes.

Nigeria were reduced to ten men, as the goalscorer Nwaeze was shown red in the 75th minute after Ubani missed a sitter.

The Junior Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire leveled the game in the 90th minute and was able to secure a draw in the encounter.

The Flying Eagles’ next match comes up on the 9th of December against their Ghanian counterparts.

The winner of the WAFU U20 Zone B championship will qualify automatically for the 2021 CAF U20 African Nations Cup.
