Olympic and World 3000m SteepleChase Champion, Conseslus Kipruto has tested positive for the coronavirus and will miss the first fixture of the 2020 Wanda Diamond League in Monaco on August 14th. Kipruto announced this in an Instagram post on Saturday, August 8th:

“Our World is going through a challenging period and we all have to take our responsibilities,” he said. “Unfortunately my Covid-19 test, as part of the Monaco-protocol, came back positive and therefore I can’t be part of the Monaco Diamond League on August 14th.”

He also added that he is asymptomatic and was planning to go for the World Record.

Kipruto was one of several World Champions announced for the meet. Others include Grant Holloway (110mH), Noah Lyles (200m), Donavan Brazier (800m), Karsten Warholm (400mH), Timothy Cheruiyot (1500m), Joshua Cheptegei (5000m), Armand Duplantis (Pole Vault), Halimah Nakaayi (800m), Beatrice Chepkoech (3000mSc), Hellen Obiri (5000m), Yulimar Rojas (Triple Jump), and double Olympic Champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah.
