Cameroon’s Joel Embiid inspired his Philadelphia 76ers team to victory over San Antonio Spurs, making one of his two free throws with just a second left on the clock as they closed out the game 132-130.

Spurs had led by 2pts with 10s left, but Shake Milton’s 3pt shot saw 76ers go 131-130 up, and with Embiid drawing a foul, he was gifted an opportunity to finish it off for his side.

Being on the court for 31mins: 14s, Embiid topscored for 76ers with 27pts, 9reb and 5ast. While Spurs’ Forward, Demar DeRozan finished with a game-high 30pts and 5reb.

Philadelphia are now 6th in the Eastern Conference table, just below Indiana Pacers in 5th place. 76ers will next take to the court on Thursday against Washington Wizards.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Chimezie Metu was an unused substitute for Spurs as he Did Not Play (DNP), coach’s decision. This is the second consecutive game Metu hasn’t got off the bench for Spurs since the NBA restarted, having not played in their first match against Sacramento Kings.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
