Team Nigeria had a representation in only one event on Day 5 of the ongoing 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janerio.

Many anticipated that Nigeria’s sole rower Chierika Ukogu would have competed in her semifinal C/D 1 Single Sculls event, however due to bad weather conditions the event was postponed by the organisers.

Ukogu will now be competing on Friday as she aims to make more history by being the first Nigerian to berth in the final of a Rowing event.

Meanwhile Nigeria’s Dream Team lost their last group B match against Colombia who won 2-0. Having rested five players from the starting line up that beat Sweden on Sunday, it showed in the performance of the team.

However, despite the loss, Nigeria still topped their group and will look to improve further in when they play in the quarter-finals.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
