Born in Asaba, Delta State on October 25, 2001, Gracious Ushie is one of the budding male quarter-milers that joined MoC Track Club for the 2019 season, having taken part in the 2018 MoC Athletics Trials in Ughelli where he impressed MoC’s coaches, and was subsequently relocated from Asaba to Lagos towards the end of 2018.

Competing in his first National U20 Championships in Ilaro and first competition as an MoC athlete, Ushie finished 4th in both his 200m and 400m heats respectively. A few weeks later, Ushie improved on his Personal Best (PB) by clocking a time of 48.65s while finishing 3rd in his heat at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) All-Comers meet held in Ijebu Ode.

The following month, Ushie emerged the 11th fastest Junior (U20) Athlete in 400m in Nigeria, running a new PB of 48.54s at the National Open Trials in Abuja in June. The teenager made his debut at the National Championships where he finished 3rd in the B Final of the men’s 200m to bring an end to his 2019 season.

He followed that up with a new PB of 21.65s in 200m at the beginning of the 2020 season when he won the B-Final at the Lagos State Athletics Trials for the National Sports Festival (NSF), finishing 4th overall. He also won the 400m B-Final and was 5th overall, hence making the Lagos 4x400m Team for the Festival before it was indefinitely postponed in March.

Ushie has secured admission to the University of Lagos and will be hoping to successfully combine his Athletics career and academics!
