After being sidelined for four months due to injury and coming off a disappointing outing at the Paris Olympics, Noah Lyles rose to the occasion to claim his fourth consecutive World Championships GOLD in the men’s 200m.

Lyles eased through the heats with 19.99s, but it was in the semifinals that he made a strong statement, blazing to a World Lead (WL) and Season’s Best (SB) of 19.51s. Jamaica’s Bryan Levell also impressed with 19.78s in his semifinal, marking himself as a serious medal contender.

In the final, Lyles exploded out of the blocks, though Levell held a slight edge on the curve. By 120m, Lyles, Levell, Kenny Bednarek, and Letsile Tebogo were almost level, but in the final stretch Lyles surged ahead to defend his title in 19.52s, equalling Usain Bolt’s feat of four consecutive world titles over 200m.

Bednarek got the Silver in 19.58 while Levell secured Bronze in a PB of 19.64s, out dipping Tebogo who returned a Season’s Best (SB) of 19.65 for 4th.
