The women’s 200m final on Day 6 featured a strong lineup, with USA’s Jefferson Wooden, fresh off her 100m GOLD, aiming for a historic double.

The race began with a moment of tension as Bahamas’ Anthonique Strachan was disqualified for a false start. Once the action resumed, the crowd went silent, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, who had been impressive in the 100m, struggled against Jefferson-Wooden’s powerful finish.

The American surged ahead, crossing the line with a world-leading time of 21.68s to claim the GOLD. She became the first woman in 12 years to win both the 100m and 200m at the same World Championships and the first American woman ever to achieve the feat.

This win also marked the USA’s 11th GOLD of the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

Great Britain’s Amy Hunt secured the Silver with 22.14s, while Jamaica’s Jackson earned the Bronze with 22.18s. The only African in the final, Côte d’Ivoire’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, finished 7th with a time of 22.62s.
