Nigeria’s fastest man this year over 200m, Udodi Onwuzurike qualified for the semifinals of the event at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships. Onwuzurike kept USA’s Kenneth Bednarek in sight as he powered forward from the bend. Bednarek took first place with a time of 19.98s, while Onwuzurike secured second with 20.27s.

South Africa’s Sinesipho Damile had a rocky start with a false start, but he redeemed himself with a strong finish, earning a photo finish with Onwuzurike to place third, also in 20.27s.

Onwuzurike is set for the semifinal tomorrow where he will face tough competition from the likes of USA’s Noah Lyles, South Africa’s Dambile, and Britain’s Zharnel Hughes.
