Day 2 in Tokyo saw Team Nigeria shine as Kanyinsola Ajayi made history! He became the first Nigerian man since Olusoji Fasuba in Osaka to reach a World Championships 100m final and recorded his sixth sub-10 of the season—more than any Nigerian ever in a single year!

In the final, Ajayi ran 10.00s to finish 6th. Jamaica’s Seville won in 9.77s, with Noah Lyles taking bronze in 9.89s.
Israel Okon who was the other Nigerian in the 100m semifinal, ran 10.14s in a tough heat, finishing 7th and 18th overall.

Tobi Amusan made it look easy in the 100m hurdles, winning heat 6 in 12.53s ahead of Devynne Charlton (12.69s) and Elena Carraro (12.86s). Tomorrow, Amusan faces Nadine Visser (12.48s) and Alaysha Johnson in semifinal heat 2 where she’ll be hoping to make top 2 and book her spot in the final.

In the men’s 400m, Samuel Ogazi ran 45.97s (5th, Heat 3), while Chidi Okezie clocked 45.66s (8th, Heat 2), both bowing out in the first round.

Oyesade Olatoye opened Nigeria’s account on the day in the women’s Hammer Throw. She started with 66.78m, fouled her second attempt, then improved to 68.82m on her final throw, finishing 10th in Group A. This is her fourth World Championships since she made her debut in Doha 2019.
