Kanyinsola Ajayi has made history! He ran an impressive 9.93s to finish 2nd in his 100m semifinal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, securing a spot in the final. With this, he became the first Nigerian man since Olusoji Fasuba to reach a World Championships final in the event.

Ajayi’s time was just 0.01s behind Noah Lyles, earning him the second automatic qualification in Semifinal 1. This marks his sixth sub-10 performance, also making him the Nigerian sprinter with the highest career sub-10s within a season in history.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 100m champion, Israel Okon, ran in a tough heat and finished 7th in 10.14s. Despite not advancing to the final, his performance placed him 18th overall in the semifinals, bringing to the close a great year for Okon who has steadily been making a name for himself.
