On day 4 of the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships taking place in Eugene, five Nigerian athletes competed, mostly in the sprints while just one athlete took part in the field events, all of them churning out great performances in their respective events.

Running from the first lane in the women’s 200m, Favour Ofili recovered well from an average start and stormed past everyone in the field to take the win in heat 6 with a time of 22.24s, beating Jenna Prandini who led for most part of the race in 22.38s!

Grace Nwokocha had just competed in the preceding heat where she secured automatic qualification with a third place finish, running 22.61s in a race won by Abby Steiner in 22.28s.

Nigeria’s third entrant in the women’s 200m was Rosemary Chukwuma who competed in the first heat, taking 5th in 22.93s, securing herself a spot in the semifinals as a time qualifier!

Meanwhile, Udodi Onwuzurike took part in the men’s 200m, taking 3rd in his heat with 20.34s and earning a big Q next to his name for the next round. World Champion Fred Kerley won the race in 20.17s.

Competing on the infield today was Chioma Onyekwere in the women’s Discus Throw qualification. She managed a best of 57.87m, falling short of qualification for the finals.
