The 2022 National Championships is one event Nigeria’s Record holder in the women’s Triple Jump, Ruth Usoro will savour for a long time to come as she soared to her first ever national title with a Season’s Best (SB) of 14.11m on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games and World Championships Trials.

Texas Tech teammate Onaara Obamuwaguan followed in 2nd with a distance of 13.15m while the women’s High Jump defending Champion Esther Isa placed 3rd with a leap of 13.14m.

This is Usoro’s sixth outing at the National Championships and only the second time she’s competed in the Triple Jump at the annual championship, having placed 3rd at the 2017 edition.

The 2021 NCAA Champion came to the competition with an SB of 13.95m which earned her Silver at this year’s NCAA Championships, and will be looking forward to representing Nigeria at next month’s World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Usoro made her first appearance at a global event for Nigeria at the World Indoors in Serbia back in March, finishing 8th in the women’s Long Jump with 6.69m. She set a new Personal Best (PB) of 6.78m at the Big 12 Conference last month and will also compete alongside Ese Brume in Sunday’s Long Jump final.
