Lagos State claimed three medals on Day 4 of Athletics at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival (NSF) courtesy of Jerry Jakpa who added a Silver medal in the 200m to his Bronze in the 100m, the women’s 4x100m team that claimed Silver and the men’s 4x100m squad that won Bronze.

The men’s 200m provided one of the highlights of the evening as Edo State’s Alaba Akintola stormed to a new Personal Best (PB) of 20.51s, with Jerry Jakpa, who ran from Lane 8, crossing the line ahead of Chidi Okezie to win Silver, equalling his PB of 20.59s, as the latter got Bronze for Delta State in a Season’s Best (SB) of 20.84s.

 

In an interesting development, all three representatives of Lagos State in the men’s 200m, made the final, with Gafar Audu finishing 5th in a new PB of 21.15s while Gracious Ushie settled for 6th, also in a new PB of 21.27s, improving on his time of 21.29s set in the semis.

The women’s 4x100m quartet comprising Joy Udo-Gabriel, Moyosore Badejo, Precious Okoronkwo and Balikis Yakubu claimed the second Silver medal of the day for Team Lagos, racing to a time of 45.01s behind Delta State while Bayelsa claimed the Bronze medal.

In the men’s 4x100m final, Emmanuel Ojeli, Gafar Audu, youngster Favour Ashe and Jakpa came together to win the Bronze medal for Lagos State, returning a time of 39.99s while Edo and Delta States took GOLD and Silver respectively.
