Bose Omolayo excited after claiming GOLD and recording an improved world record.

Rio 2016 GOLD Medallist Bose Omolayo did not disappoint on Day 3 of the 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup holding in Manchester as she improved her own World Record (WR) of 142kg which was set at the 2019 World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, to a lift of 142.5kg to claim the GOLD medal ahead of  Nataliia Oliinyk of Ukraine in 2nd place and Maria Alcoba Membrilla of Spain in 3rd place.


Elsewhere, 2018 African Championships GOLD medallist Paulina Okpala recorded an upset in the Women’s up to 73kg, after beating 2012 Paralympic Champion Souhad Ghazouani to the GOLD medal with a lift of 120kg.

Nigeria continues to sit at the top of the medals table with a total of 11 medals comprising eight GOLD and three Silver medals at the end of Day 3 of the World Cup.

The competition will come to a close on Sunday with two Nigerian powerlifters in action – Loveline Obiji in the women’s over 86kg and Folashade Oluwafemiayo in the women’s up to 86kg category.
