Coming up against each other for their respective clubs, two Senegalese players Georges Niang and Gorgui Dieng were both in action this evening in a nail-biting encounter between Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz.

Grizzlies started the better of both teams, but Utah’s comeback to eventually run out with a 124 -115 victory was quite remarkable.

Trailing Grizzlies by as much as 12pts in the 2nd quarter, Jazz somehow made a complete turnaround to go on a 14-0 run and even stretched it to 18-2, leading for the first time going into the break.

Playing for Grizzlies, Dieng came off the bench to make 2pts and a block for his team, being on the court a total of 10mins: 57s. His compatriot, Niang had greater joy with his Utah team playing for 16mins: 43s, and making 3pts, after attempting five 3pt shots.

Niang’s club teammate, DR Congo’s Emmanuel Mudiay saw less court-time for Utah and did not find the bucket in the 4mins:26s that he was on the court.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
