On this day in 2018, Temilola Ogunrinde on her first ever appearance for Nigeria, hurled a 4th round Personal Best (PB) of 67.39m in the women’s Hammer Throw at the African Athletics Championships in Asaba, breaking the National Record (NR) previously held by Queen Obisesan in the process.

In a contest where the top 4 finishers set National Records, Ogunrinde’s mark was enough for a Silver medal as the GOLD was taken by Morocco’s Soukaina Zakkour (68.28m) while the Bronze went to Congolese, Jennifer Batu (66.43m).

Ogunrinde has however since then, improved her NR twice as a student-athlete at the 2019 Big Ten Championships and NCAA Championships where the present mark stands at 68.85m.
She also won a Silver medal at the 2019 African Games.
