Following the Akure All-Comers which took place almost a fortnight ago, the first leg of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Classics will kick off at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti this weekend, Saturday February 29 and Sunday March 1st, with the country’s top athletes expected to show up at the Ekiti State capital.

An All-Comers competition will hold on Saturday for athletes to qualify for the classics taking place on Sunday. Events for the classics have been classified into Premium and Classic categories respectively.

The Premium events are the men’s 100m, 400m and 4x100m Relay, and the women’s 200m, 400m and 4x100m. The Top 4 finishers in this category will win N40,000, N30,000, N20,000 and N15,000 respectively, while the Top 3 finishers in the relays will get N50,000, N30,000 and N20,000.

The Classic events are the men’s 800m, 110m Hurdles, Long Jump, Javelin and 400m Hurdles, and the women’s 1500m, 100m Hurdles, Triple Jump, Discus and 400m Hurdles. The Top 4 competitors will take home N20,000, N15,000, N10,000 and N7500 respectively.

Athletes are expected to arrive on Friday, February 28, and depart on Monday, March 2nd.
