Sifan Hassan etched her name in the history books, becoming the first woman ever to claim the 1500m and 10,000m World Titles at the same Championships, winning her second GOLD medal in Doha.

The Dutch athlete who had won the women’s 10,000m World Title in only her second race ever over that distance, decided to double in the 1500m as well, comfortably winning her heat and semifinal to set herself on the paths of her second title

Hassan took on the initiative for the lead very early in the race, leading the pack very fast with a 2:05 split in the first 800m.

As they hit the bell, she then began to extend her own lead, streaking away to victory in a Personal Best (PB) and Championship Record (CR) of 3:51.95, a time that moves her up to sixth on the all-time list. She therefore became the first athlete to win the 1500m and 10,000m at any World Championships.

In what played as one of the fastest races of all-time, Faith Kipyegon who had just returned from maternity and was only in her fifth race of the season, pulled through in style, running a new Kenyan National Record (NR) of 3:54.22 to get the Silver, while Gudaf Tsegay set a new Personal Record of 3:54.38 in 3rd place.

Shelby Houlihan ran a massive new Personal Best & American Record of 3:54.99 in 4th with Laura Muir in 5th with an SB of 3:55.76. It was indeed a race with quality as a total of nine women swept under 4 minutes.
