Noah Lyles anchored US men's 4x100m relay team to GOLD in a new National Record.

After barely qualifying for the men’s 4x100m final in yesterdays Heats, USA men’s quartet of Christian Coleman, Justin Gatlin, Mike Rodgers and Noah Lyles sped to the second fastest time in the history of the event, clocking a new National Record (NR) and World Lead (WL) of 37.10s to snag the win in the final today.

Going into the final, newly crowned 200m champion, Lyles  was the only addition to the team, as he replaced Cravon Gillespie for the anchor leg.

The move paid off extremely well, as after Coleman and Gatlin had run a very fast 1st and 2nd leg, it was just a matter of how fast they could run, with Lyles running a blistering anchor leg to bring home the victory for the Americans.

A poor second changeover for Great Britain costs them a little bit of time, as Adam Gemili, Richard Kilty, Zharnel Hughes and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake ran 37.36 seconds to finish 2nd as they failed to defend the title won in London two years ago. Japan was 3rd in a new Area Record (AR) of 37.43s.

In the women’s final, the quartet of Natalliah Whyte, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jonielle Smith and Shericka Jackson combined to produce the world fastest time in 2019, posting a 41.44s to win the women’s 4x100m.

Jamaica led from start to finish to win, with Great Britain second and USA third in . A good result for Great Britain after a slightly slow start but they made up for it in the end.
