Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, became the first Nigerian athlete to qualify for the final of any event at the ongoing 2019 World Championships in Doha, gaining automatic qualification for the final of men’s Shot Put.

The National Record (NR) holder didn’t get off to a flyer in Group A, but with the season he has had it was never in doubt that he would secure the needed mark to join the 12 finalists when the qualification rounds are concluded.

With the automatic qualification mark set at 20.90m, Enekwechi threw a mark of 20.12m on his first attempt, however he improved on his 2nd throw, heaving out a mark of 20.94m to secure his place in the final.

Having missed out on a place in the final two years ago, Enekwechi will see this as a huge step up from London. The final will come up on Saturday, and whatever the outcome, Enekwechi will undoubtedly be pleased with the progress he has made since 2017.
