Chioma Onyekwere and Sade Olatoye were the two athletes who competed for Nigeria on Day 6 of the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.

Onyekwere, the reigning African Championships Champion and African Games champion in the women’s Discus, was hoping to stamp her foot on the world stage in the event, as she came within whiskers of qualifying for the final.

Drawn in Group B of the women’s qualification series, Onyekwere launched her implement at her first attempt to 61.38m, a new Personal Best (PB) for her.

She, however, couldn’t register a mark in her next two attempt, finishing 7th in her pool, and 0.87cm shy of qualifying for the final.

For Olatoye, the African Games Champion, could only reach a mark of 16.97 in the women’s Shot Put, as she placed 13th in her pool and 26th overall. The mark wasn’t enough for her to qualify for the final.
