Nigeria’s quest to win her first medal at the World Athletics Championships since 2013 got a huge boost as both Favour Ofili and Patience Okon-George-who ran in the Heats of the women’s 400m, qualified for the semifinal of the 2019 edition taking place in Doha, Qatar.

Favour Ofili, the African U18 double Champion, was in imperious form as she continued her meteoric rise to the top of global sprinting, running a blistering Personal Best (PB) of 51.51s to place third in her Heat.

Despite placing 6th in her Heat, multiple National Champion Patience Okon-George squeaked through to tomorrow’s semi-finals as a non-automatic qualifier with a time of 51.71s.

Nigeria’s only semifinalist in the men’s 200m, Divine Oduduru, couldn’t sail past a heat that was stacked with Olympic and World medallists, recording 20.84 to place 8th.

Blessing Okagbare got disqualified for a lane infringement after she had placed 4th in Heat 1 of the women’s 200m.
