After a series of bizarre events derailed Beatrice Chepkoech’s hope of winning a World Championship medal in London two years ago, the World Record (WR) holder in the 3000m Steeplechase made amends this time, as she coasted to a new Championship Record (CR) to clinch GOLD at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.

Chepkoech, who is ranked No. 1 in the event, set an incredible pace in the first 2000m, leading many to think she might just have another crack at her own WR. She however began to wither heading into the final lap, but not enough for defending World Champion Emma Coburm to take advantage.

Coburm had tried to reel her in heading into the last lap, as she had a strong kick, but Chepkoech proved too good for the American, clocking 8:57.84s to take the win.

Behind, Coburm reached a new Personal Best (PB) of 9:02.35 to snag the Silver, while Germany’s Gesa Krause set a new National Record (NR) of 9:02.30 to bring home the Bronze.

Before that outstanding performance from Chepkoech, we had witness arguably the most intriguing men’s 5000m final in the history of the Championships.

Defending Champion, Muktar Edris, proved to us all that his victory against the great Mo Farah  in 2017 wasn’t a fluke, as he retained his title in a Season’s Best of 12:58.85s.

His Compatriot, Selemon Barega, who is the World U20 Champion, nicked Silver in 12:59.70 with Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed taking Bronze in 13:01.11.
