After a dramatic Round of 16 clash in which they disposed of the Cameroonians, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will now set their sights on getting past the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their Quarter-Final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) game on Wednesday.

Nigeria produced their best performance of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as they came from behind to defeat Cameroon to progress to the quarter-finals where they will face South Africa.

Odion Ighalo gave Nigeria the lead inside the opening 20 minutes but a double from Cameroon left them behind at the break, but Ighalo’s second was quickly followed up by Alex Iwobi as they held on to win.

Following such a good performance, it is unlikely that Nigeria’s Coach,Gernot Rohr will make changes to their side although Samuel Chukwueze was brilliant from the bench and may have forced his way into the starting XI.

For the South Africans, their matches at this year’s AFCON have all been tight, with Stuart Baxter’s side scoring just two goals but conceding only twice.

Despite upsetting hosts Egypt, Baxter says he was under pressure ahead of game but South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams feels improvements are being made.

Baxter is not expected to make any changes to the team that shocked Egypt 1-0 in the round of 16. That means Thembinkosi Lorch, who scored the goal against Egypt, will start despite the return of Themba Zwane from suspension.

Bogani Zungu, Sfiso Hlanti and Thulani Hlatshwayo must avoid a yellow card to be available for the semi-finals if South Africa progress.
