Raymond Ekevwo’s form in 2019 has seen him have very close shaves with regard to breaking his Personal Record in the 100m.

He finally surpassed his previous mark as he clocked a big Lifetime Best of 10.02s to finish 2nd in the men’s 100m final at the 2019 South Eastern Conference (SEC) Championships behind his teammate from the Florida Gators, Hakim Sani Brown who also broke ground with a 9.99s clocking.

Ekevwo had run a wind-legal Season’s Best (SB) of 10.28s early this season and then clocked 10.12s in the men’s 100m at the Drake Relays which didn’t count as a PB going by the wind which was over the legal limit.

At the SEC Championships, he finished with a time of 21.15s in the 200m preliminaries but built on it, winning his 100m heat in 10.31s ahead of Mustaqeem Williams (Tennessee) whom he shrugged off as the latter ran 10.32s.

A few hours into the final, he led off his team – the Florida 4x100m to 2nd in 39.12s behind LSU that won in 38.85s.

Lined up just inside Hakim Sani Brown’s lane, he powered out beside the tall frame of the Japanese, building up with every stride and closing in to eventually hit the finish in 10.02s, that bit off a 0.22s chunk off his previous Personal Best.

He becomes the second Nigerian athlete to beat 10.1s this season and puts him well on course going to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Meanwhile, Divine Oduduru stayed on top of the pile in qualification for the men’s 100m final at the Big-12 Championships with a 10.11s clocking.

It was a very dominant win as Washington Brown who finished 2nd managed 10.48s, while Isaiah Cunningham got 3rd in 10.53s. Oduduru still remains the World Leader in the 100m and 200m this season.
