The National U-18 and U-20 Championships initially billed to hold on February 22nd and 23rd in Ilaro, Ogun State, has now been shifted to March 7th to 10th, according to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

AFN Technical Director, Sunday Adeleye disclosed this in a chat with Making of Champions on Friday, stating that the development was necessary because of the forthcoming elections.

He said, “Looking at the political calendar in Nigeria, we feel that it is only proper that our athletes don’t get involved in any issues; we want to keep them safe, so immediately the whole election fever is over, we can now get down to business and do what we know best, which is racing and competing.

“The venue still remains the same. However, arrival is now on the 6th of March, while competition will hold from the 7th to 10th, and departure will be on the 11th.”

The championship will be used as the Trials for the forthcoming African U-18 and U-20 Championships holding in Cote d’Ivoire from April 16th to 20th.
