Respite has come the way of female Shot Put throwers in Nigeria as the women’s Shot put event has now been included in the 1st MoC Grand Prix billed to hold from June 12th to 13th, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Lagos.

The women’s Shot put was not initially included as one of the events to be competed in at the MoC Grand Prix. However, a lover of sports in the person of Mike Udoh, husband to Hammer thrower Feyisayo (nee Daramola), has donated the N45,000 Prize Money needed to include the women’s Shot put as a Gold Event at the Grand Prix!

Following this new development, female Shot Put throwers interested in participating in the competition can now register online for the event as registration ends on Friday, June 8th, after which entries will no longer be received.

The donation of Mr. Udoh has now set the pace for as many kind hearted individuals as are interested in stepping forward as Sponsors for other events, especially the Relays, as any of Men’s and Women’s 4x100m, 4x400m or Mixed 4x400m Relay could be added, with N100,000 as Prize Money (N48,000 for 1st, N32,000 for 2nd and N20,000 for 3rd place) for each Relay event that we find a Sponsor (any new events will be announced as and when their sponsors are secured).

Also, all athletes planning to participate in the MoC Grand Prix are hereby notified that all Prize Money will be paid electronically the day after the event (Thursday, 14th June). As such, athletes should come ready with their bank details and should ensure that they have enough funds to arrive and leave Lagos before they receive their Prizes.

The MoC Grand Prix will be the first competition for senior Athletes in Nigeria since the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Golden League in Abuja in March, and the first major competition in Lagos in 2018!
