The women’s 100m field at the Doha Diamond League could be likened to an Olympic final, and the race certainly lived up to expectations as Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie Josee Ta Lou took the day with a World Lead (WL) and Personal Best (PB) of 10.85s, shaving 0.01s off her former lifetime best.

Having clocked a scorching wind-aided time of 10.72s earlier this season, Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor set a legal time and Season’s Best (SB) of 10.90s to finish 2nd in the race, while double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson placed 3rd in 10.93s.

Murielle Ahoure and South Africa’s Carina Horn settled for 4th and 5th respectively with 10.96s and 10.98s – a new PB and National Record (NR) for the South African. Dafne Schippers was 6th with an SB of 11.03s.
