Bowofoluwa who is being sponsored by ND Western, opened his 2018 season at the Commonwealth Games Trials in Abuja where he competed in the 100m and 200m.

2017 National U-18 100m Bronze medallist Bowofoluwa Egbeyemi, opened his 2018 season at the Commonwealth Games Trials held in Abuja from February 14th to 16th, where he competed in the men’s 100m and 200m.

Egbeyemi, who is being sponsored by ND Western, was pitted against men’s 100m National Champion Seye Ogunlewe in his heat where he raced to a 4th place finish in 11.05s as Ogunlewe easily won the race in 10.31s, while eventual champion Enoch Adegoke followed in 10.43s.

He thereafter competed in the 200m where he faced former National Champion Obinna Metu in Heat 4, securing a 3rd place finish with a Season’s Best (SB) of 22.70s, while Metu won the race in 21.58s.

18-year old Egbeyemi, who is MoC’s first Athlete at the University of Ibadan where he is currently studying Mechanical Engineering, was thrilled at the experience garnered whilst running alongside Nigeria’s fastest man, and believes that there is a need to step up his training ahead of the rest of the season:

“I didn’t really enjoy myself here because of the times I ran. I wasn’t too impressed. I think I now see the importance of training. I have not been able to get in a lot of training considering school work and all, but hopefully before the season runs out, I will try and do something.

“It was fun running against the big guys. Seye, the fastest man in Nigeria at the moment was in my heat, so it was fun. My target for 2018 is the World Juniors”, he said.
