David Rudisha will be unable to defend his 800m title after announcing his withdrawal from the World Championships in London following a muscle injury.

The World Record holder becomes the latest elite athlete to pull out from the biennal competition because of an injury, joining the likes of Thiago Braz (Pole Vault) and Greg Rutherford (Long jump).

In a message on his Twitter handle, Rudisha said he was sad that he won’t be taking part in the competition.

Botswana’s Nijel Amos is now the overwhelming favourite to win the men’s 800m title, having a Season’s Best (SB) of 1:43.10 , although he would be wary of another Kenyan, Emmanuel Korir who is the World Leader with 1:43.10

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources. Formerly the Content Manager-Sports at Ringier media Nigeria, Chris is a Senior Sports writer, Photographer & Community manager at Making of Champions.
