Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare was back to winning ways on Tuesday, winning her second race 100m of the season at the Gyulai Memorial in Budapest where she clocked 11.11s.

Okagbare who last weekend ran a Season’s Best (SB) of 11.07s to finish 3rd in Paris, this time around comfortably secured a win, beating Remona Burchell who was 2nd in 11.15s and Morolake Akinosun finishing 3rd in 11.19s.

The Nigerian champion is no doubt preparing for the National Championships, as she would soon make a decision on what events she would be competing in at the World Championships in London.

Meanwhile in the men’s 100m, Justin Gatlin recorded his second sub 10s of the season after he narrowly defeated South Africa’s Akani Simbine by just 0.01s. Gatlin ran a time of 9.98s, and Simbine coming in 2nd 9.99s, while Isiah Young was 3rd in 10.10s

Incidentally that was Simbine’s 14th sub 10s race, and he came back to finish 2nd again in the 200m in 20.21s behind Young who won in 20.14s. Dedrics Dukes finished 3rd in 20.44s.

Athletics coverage was a discovery, having to move away from regularly writing about Football. Although it was initially daunting, but now being an authority in it makes the past effort worthwhile. From travelling on the same international flight with Nigerian athletes, to knowing you could easily interview: World Record holder Tobi Amusan, then Ese Brume, I have cut my teeth in this beat earning the trust of Athletics sources.
